Culture Lesson of the Day

At dinner the other night, abuela picked up something that looked like a molded tortilla out of the bin on the table.  I looked at it, watching her to see what she was going to do with it.  A few minutes later the little girl of the house reached into the same bin and I then saw her pull out what looked like a blue tortilla.

Of course, the polite thing would have been to google it later that night....but dinners are always so quiet so I asked "Why are the tortillas blue?" (in spanish of course).  I was met with immediate laughter as they joked with me about my questions.  Needless to say, I have officially learned that there is more than one kind of corn that can be used in tortillas.
