Today, we visited the place below, Chicabal. It is a volcano with a lagoon inside the top. It is famous because it is very important to the Mayan culture. Throughout the walking path along the lake, you find different mayan alters. During the day the "fog" rolls in and covers the lake so you cannot see to the other side. The Maya people believe that these are the spirits coming down in response to their prayers.
I definitely did not dress for the activity today. The tour guide explained that week that we were visiting a lake and that there were some stairs we had to go down to view it from the bottom, but it was not bad. So I wore my jeans, nice top and tennis shoes...figuring I wanted to look OK for the photos. No one told us it was in the middle of a volcano (I probably should have looked into that) or that we would have to climb up the entire volcano to get to the stairs. Needless to say it was an 8 hour trip, with over half of it mountain climbing. I wish I had videos of everyone slipping and falling on the mud as we were trying to get down the volcano at the end of the day. I could have won millions at the "Funniest Home Video" Show!
