Just returned home from a weekend trip to a beach town called Montericco. It was a great opportunity to meet some of the other students, see Guatemala through the windows of the car and enjoy the beach. We left at 10am on Friday and made the 6 hour car ride to Montericco on the southern western coast of Guatemala. We spent most of our time at the beach, in the pool, lounging in the hammocks and participating in a tour of the local mangroves.
One of highlights included seeing a real blowfish (currently dead) wash up on the shore in the late afternoon. It was the size of a beach ball and still slightly puffed up. It was incredible!
Also notable was how loud I screamed when I was greeted by a jumping frog the size of a large grapefruit in the outdoor shower when I went to rinse off after swimming. All were throughly amused.
Today, the count came in at 83 for the number of head bobs per hour (6 hours total= too many headbobs) from the sleeping girl who sat next to me on the car ride home had. Can you tell how many speed bumps and potholes are on the roads here?
All in all we had a fantastic time!
