We made the trek to a local prueblo last Thursday to see the famous church from the cover of the last national geographic. 1.5 hours and 3 buses later we arrived...
Who knew we had to hike to the top of this town. I have a sneaky suspicion the "tour guides" lie about the difficulty so they can get more students to go. You think I would have learned by now. At least this time I wore my hiking boots (more for the rain than the thought of walking...but who cares!?!?)
The Cathedral.
It perplexes me why it is smaller than the church.
Site of the Myan Rituals in the town, right next to the Cathedral
Women of Steel.
Many of the Myan women carry items on the top of their heads, but it impressed me how they could do it so easily with steep inclines and sandals on their feet. Wow.
Points for anyone who could explain why there is a door on the second floor and no stairs down.
My guess:
When it rains alot during September the bottom floor floods, so they have a way out of the house. Any other guesses?
